Three CBC Masters make it to tree stump podium at Green Mountain Head Race

On Sunday, September 29, a number of CBC masters rowers traveled to Putney Vermont to compete in the annual Green Mountain Head Regatta. Several of them did quite well!  Kim McKnight posted an impressive second place finish in the Men's 1x 65-74 category, with a time only eight seconds behind Gevvie Stone's dad Gregg.  Marty van der Heide and Tim Willsallen took home some apples (3rd) in the Men's 2x 100+ category. Gill Haines-Sharpe also finished well, posting the fifth fastest time in a very fast field in the Women's  1x 55-64 category. 

Held three weeks before the Head of the Charles, the Green Mountain attracts rowers from all over New England.  It is a 5k out and back course on the Connecticut River with a challenging spin around two buoys at the half way point. For a race that manages to cultivate an enduring atmosphere of unpretentiousness (singles and doubles only, the parking lot is a corn field, and the prizes are maple syrup for first place, apple cider for second, and a bag of apples for third), the competition is tremendously steep.
