About
The modified team is for all new and experienced rowers in 7th, and 8th grades. The club is not affiliated with any school district and rowers come from a range of area-schools (including home-schooled students). Rowers have come from as far away as Corning, Elmira, Watkins Glen, and Whitney Point.
**8th graders who have rowed for a full year may move up to the novice team if they are ready for a more competitive program. Please discuss with coach.
Practice times:
In the Fall and Spring seasons, modified rowers practice on weekday afternoons at the boathouse. See Schedule and Fees for more info.
Note: Novice and Modified teams will practice at the same time and there may be intermixing of the squads for practices.
Do rowers have to be at ICSD?
All CBC squads are open to students from any school district who can commit to the practice schedule.
Do modified rowers compete?
Modified rowers participate in intra-squad competition, and ~1 away race (can vary season-to-season).
What kind of boats do modified rowers use?
Modified rowers use four-person boats and stable, training singles. They focus on sculling (2 oars/person, one in each hand).
A note on practices...
All spring, summer, and fall practices occur in Stewart Park at Cascadilla Boathouse. Practices are held, weather permitting, on the Cayuga and Fall Creek Inlets, and Cayuga Lake. Typically, boats go out in most weather except when there is a strong north wind or thunder. If the weather does not allow rowing, practices are held on-land and include aerobic workouts, strength training, erging, and stretching.
