Masters Competitive team

Winter 2025-56 has two options

Option 1 Winter training full season
  • $242 for December, January, and February, at the YMCA and tanks at Cornell
  • Weekly: 2 (Dec) or 3 (Jan/Feb) coached workouts per week and up-to 2 captain-led ergs + use of the locker room and shower facilities at the YMCA.
  • To attend these sessions, you do NOT need to pay for a Y membership.
  • Workout plan to be shared weekly
  • December schedule:
    • Tuesday/Thursday: Captain-led erg at 6am
    • Wednesday: Coached Lift/circuit at 6am with Becca
    • Saturday: Coached group erg + video review at 8am with Becca
  • January/February schedule:
    • Tuesday/Thursday: Captain-led erg at 6am
    • Wednesday: Coached lift/circuit at 6am with Becca
    • Saturday: Coached group erg + video review at 8am with Becca or Marion
    • Sunday: Coached tank workout at 8am at the Cornell Tanks with Becca
  • Gym and erg access outside of CBC-led sessions:
    • Y membership is $65/mo - this is needed ONLY if you want to use the Y gym, including CBC equipment, outside of the organized practice times
    • The Y has discounts for seniors, young adults, full time college students, and Borg Warner and BOCES employees

Option 2 TANKS only season
  • $125, January/February only, Sunday mornings
  • This option is designed particularly for members that were in the Rec or recent Learn to Row programs who want to develop/keep their skills sharp and stay connected with the community.

In the fall, we train from late August through early November for head race style events and usually go to the Head of the Genesee and the Head of the Fish regattas.
In the winter, we work on fitness and strength, utilizing ergs, weights, the Cornell tanks, and lots of body-weight mobility exercises.
In the spring, we get on the water in late March and compete at the Pittsford regatta over Memorial Day Weekend.
In the summer, we continue on the progress made over the year and take advantage of the warm weather to get a lot of work done in small boats. We don't have a regular regatta that we attend but our team is ever evolving!

Requirements:

Starting in August 2025, you must have an annual Masters Membership to be able to row on the Competitive team. You must have a level of experience rowing beyond one Learn to Row session. You should be comfortable with rowing vocabulary, various kinds of boats, and be willing to commit to practices at 5:30am. If you aren't sure if you have the requisite level of experience yet, talk to a coach or sign up for the summer evening rec group or another Learn to Row class.
While we do not have any erg score cutoffs to be on the racing team you should be fit enough to complete a 90 minute row on the water.

Coxswains

We're always on the lookout for coxswains! Memberships fees are reduced and seasonal fees are waived!
