Masters Competitive team

Purpose of the program: for Masters rowers who desire to improve fitness, race, and who enjoy being on a team. Rowers in this program should be at least at the level of a graduate of Foundations. Most rowers in this group are proficient in both sweep and sculling, though we understand that some rowers may have affinities for one over the other or physical limitations precluding one form of rowing or a specific side of sweep rowing. Racing is not required but racing lineups will often be prioritized.
We are a full year program with fees divided by season. In the fall, we train from late August through early November for head race style events. In the winter, we work on fitness and strength, utilizing ergs, weights, and lots of body-weight mobility exercises. In the spring, we get on the water in late March and compete at the Pittsford regatta over Memorial Day Weekend. In the summer, we work on sprint speed and attend local NY and mid-Atlantic races.

Requirements:

You must have an annual Masters Membership to be able to row on the Competitive team and have a level of experience rowing beyond one Learn to Row session. You should be comfortable with rowing vocabulary, various kinds of boats, and be willing to commit to practices at 5:30am. If you aren't sure if you have the requisite level of experience yet, talk to a coach or sign up for the summer evening Open Sculling program or a LTR II: Skills Development class.
While we do not have any erg score cutoffs to be on the racing team you should be fit enough to complete a 90 minute practice on the water.
All rowers must have a current USRowing Membership.

Coxswains

We're always on the lookout for coxswains and membership is free! For coxswains who also want to row, we offer a fee discount!
