To celebrate National Learn to Row Day 2025, Cascadilla Boat Club is hosting a FREE Learn to Row event at our boathouse in Stewart Park on Saturday, June 7, 2025
Between 10am and 2pm, the club will offer multiple waves of hour-long sessions during which participants will get a quick tutorial on the rowing stroke on a stationary rowing machine (or "erg"), a boathouse tour and safety chat, and a chance to get on the water in an 8-person rowing shell.
When you arrive, please sign up at the registration tent where you'll sign a USRowing waiver and get placed into a Learn to Row group.
What to Bring:
* Wear comfortable, athletic gear that is not too baggy (loose clothes can get snagged in the seat wheels or tangled with the oar). Sneakers are worn while you're on the erg and you'll want socks when you're in the boat. * Non-glass water bottle * A change of clothes (including socks) -- rowing is a water sport and you'll often get splashed! * Check with weather -- bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses if it's going to be hot, or a hat and a rain jacket if the weather looks cool and damp. We will row rain or shine (but not if there is thunder and lightning)
Requirements:
* Participants must be at least 12 years old and must be able to swim * While elite rowing requires high levels of fitness, this Learn to Row Day will not require any fitness benchmarks!
